InnerCity Weightlifting is an Official Charity Partner of the 128th Boston Marathon presented by Bank of America®

Boston, MA — September 11, 2023 — InnerCity Weightlifting (ICW) is proud to announce that it has been awarded five coveted spots as part of the 2024 Bank of America Boston Marathon Official Charity Program. ICW is grateful for the opportunity to raise money for its mission to amplify the voice and agency of people most impacted by systemic racism and mass incarceration.


InnerCity Weightlifting has always been about more than just lifting weights. Founded on the belief that environmental factors are to be blamed far more than any individual, ICW has worked tirelessly to break down barriers and provide a pathway to success for people who are impacted by the criminal legal system.


The Boston Marathon is one of the most prestigious and competitive races in the world, attracting elite athletes from across the globe. This year, InnerCity Weightlifting has been honored with five entries for the marathon, allowing prospective runners to earn a bib by fundraising for ICW. ICW is proud to partner with CharityTeams.com to create a seamless and memorable journey for all runners. Since 2008, CharityTeams has assisted charities with their athletic fundraising opportunities through marathon and road race programs.

ABOUT INNERCITY WEIGHTLIFTING (ICW):

InnerCity Weightlifting is a non-profit organization that provides workforce development programs and comprehensive case management to amplify the voice and agency of people most impacted by systemic racism and mass incarceration. Founded in 2010, ICW provides job training, education, and mentorship to individuals impacted by the criminal legal system, building hope, earning trust, bridging social capital, and sustaining economic mobility. By offering a supportive community and a place to belong, ICW is breaking the cycle of violence one lift at a time.


ABOUT THE BOSTON ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION (B.A.A.)

Established in 1887, the Boston Athletic Association is a non-profit organization with a mission of promoting a healthy lifestyle through sports, especially running. The B.A.A. manages the Boston Marathon, and supports comprehensive charity, youth, and year-round programming. The Boston Marathon is part of the Abbott World Marathon Majors, along with international marathons in Tokyo, London, Berlin, Chicago, and New York City. Starting in 2024, the Boston Marathon’s presenting partner will be Bank of America. The 128th Boston Marathon is scheduled to take place on Monday, April 15, 2024.
